Government considering total lockdown in Kibra as COVID-19 cases soar to 2,093

Kibra which has continued to record high cases of coronavirus could be put on total lockdown, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman has said.

Dr Aman on Tuesday said that the area is under close watch by the government and will be put on total lockdown should the number of coronavirus cases continue increasing.

“It is on the table and the government will announce if it feels it necessary to do so… We are looking at where the cluster might be,” Dr Aman stated.

In the new 72 cases reported in the country on Tuesday, 39 of them are from Kibra while 13 are from Busia.

Over the last week, Kibra has registered the highest number of COVID-19 cases.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country are 2,093. The government tested 2,892 samples.

The new patients are aged between 11 – 73. The Health CAS also announced that 17 more patients have been discharged bringing the total number of recovered patients to 499.

He also said that two more patients succumbed to the virus bringing the total to 71.
