The Kenyan government will evacuate over 500 Kenyans stuck in China, India and the UK from next week, Foreign Affairs PS Amb Macharia Kamau has said.
The PS while speaking to Inooro FM in an interview Tuesday said elaborate plans are underway to evacuate Kenyans in these countries.
However, they will have to meet the cost of transport and provide the respective missions with valid Kenyan travel documents to be allowed to jet back.
“Most Kenyans who were left stranded in India had travelled for medical treatment,” he said adding that the evacuation will in all these countries start next week from May 5.The first evacuation will be that from London Heathrow Airport to Nairobi next week via a chartered flight.
“We can confirm that a @KenyaAirways flight destined for Nairobi from London will now depart on 4th May 2020. Stranded Kenyans wishing to travel are asked to book directly at https://kenya-airways.com/en-uk/charter-flights… and the Kenya Airways UK office at Tel 0208 283 1818. @ForeignOfficeKE,” Kenya’s Ambassador to UK Manoah Esipisu stated.
A week ago, the Foreign Affairs Ministry had announced the evacuation of Kenyans living in the UK wanting to return to Kenya.
A flight from Nairobi to London shuttled British nationals to London and was expected to make a return flight with Kenyan nationals on board but it did not happen.
KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka explained that the planned evacuation was hoarded as they were yet to finalize on travel arrangements.
Kenyan Embassy in New Delhi India also announced via Ambassador Willy Bett that they are making evacuation arrangements for over 160 Kenyans stuck in India.
Most of them had gone there to seek medical treatment.
Bett said that “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on logistics to arrange for a chartered flight for the evacuation of Kenyans who want to return home at their own cost.”
KQ through Kenyan Embassy in China said it is organizing a chartered flight for Kenyans who wish to return home. The cost of the flight ticket will cost Ksh80,000.
