GSU officers missing after shootout with raiders in Laikipia

Two General Service Unit (GSU) officers have been missing following a weekend shootout with bandits in Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

An anonymous police source told the Nation that a squad of GSU officers was engaged in an aggressive gun battle with the bandits believed to be illegal herders before the two went missing.

“My colleagues went missing after the attack and have not been traced. I fear they may have been killed after being taken hostage,” said the source in a telephone interview.

The suspected raiders are said to have fled after the fierce attack, with some having sustained gunshot wounds.

When the media contacted Laikipia County police commander Simon Kipkeu, he did not comment on the matter. He only said there was one AP officer from Rumuruti Police Station who sustained injuries from a shootout between raiders and the police at Ol Maisor ranch on Wednesday night.

“I am not aware of any missing GSU officers, but I know of a police officer who was injured while on duty,” said Mr Kipkeu.
