Hard times for Independent candidates as Uhuru, Raila “disowns” them

By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

Losers in the party primaries both in Jubilee and NASA coalitions respectively who will vie as independent candidates have hit hard ground in their quest for support from the two coalitions.

Terming independent candidates as “enemies of NASA”, Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has maintained his stand will be to rally his supporters to only vote for NASA affiliated politicians.

He said that he cannot support the independent candidates because they were rejected by the people in the primaries and they do not share the ideals and philosophy of NASA.

“I have constantly urged them to adhere to the wishes of the people but they have insisted on running independent, let them not deceive you using my name to satisfy their selfish interest,” he said in Rarieda on Saturday as quoted by The Star.

Further, the NASA Presidential candidate noted that by supporting NASA affiliated politicians, he would improve his stakes across the county as well as have leaders who can implement NASA manifesto.

Amani National Congress Party boss Musalia Mudavadi also called out the independents telling them to shelve their ambition just like they had to shelve theirs when Raila was named the Presidential flag bearer for NASA.

In Jubilee, things are not any different. President Uhuru Kenyatta a fortnight ago held a meeting with Jubilee losers and told them that he would only work with those who have been elected by the people.

He warned them against any move to tarnish the names of those who have been nominated on a Jubilee ticket.

However, the independents under Kenya Alliance of Independent Candidates held a mega meeting on Saturday at Kasarani Gymnasium where Uhuru was expected to show up but he did not in what was seen as a message that he will not support either of them

They said that they will be on the ballot and will support Uhuru’s re-election.

MT Kenya Independents Caucus Chairman George Nyanja-vying for Kiambu Senator has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta not to campaign for Jubilee nominees but let the voters decide who is best to lead them.

However, this has been met with resistance with Jubilee nominees from Kiambu County led by Ferdinand Waititu stating that they will only campaign for those who have been nominated by Jubilee.
