Hard times forces Naivasha man to demand arrest, imprisonment to get free meals, shelter

A man in Naivasha has left many in mixed feelings, shock, and surprise after he walked to a police station and demanded to be arrested on Tuesday.

The man only identified as Peter and a barber by profession put up a rare show of courage and walked into Naivasha police station all the way from Karagita and demanded he be arrested so as to get free food and shelter.

Peter told the police that he can no longer cope with the high cost of living and his only bet is in jail where he gets free food and shelter.

“I walked all the way from Karagita to Naivasha Police Station so that I could be arrested and put in jail where I’m guaranteed a place to sleep and food,” he said as the Star reports.

However, police at the station sent him off by telling him that he could not be arrested since he had committed no offence.

But, yet again, Peter had his plan well calculated to secure him a place as a guest of the state.

He flushed out two rolls of bhang and told police to arrest him for being in possession of an illegal drug.

He went ahead to make a “moving confession” that he puffed the bhang at a place where some officers were but they did not notice at all that he was smoking bhang.

The station’s commanding officer (OCS) Isaac Sang questioned Peter why he was bent on being arrested and making every effort to be behind bars while he is not in the wrong.

He later found out that the man was under depression since his business had collapsed after engaging in bad company and he did not have any other means of livelihood.

The OCS said they had to bring in a man of the collar to pray for Peter before he went back to his Karagita home.
