When the infamous ‘panda mbegu’ phrase thrust Pastor Victor Kanyari into negative publicity, his now estranged wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo was forced to take bullets for him.
Betty, at the time, appeared shaken by behind-the-scenes of “panda mbegu ya 310” ultimately leading to their separation a while later.
In a post on Facebook recently, she lifted the lid on the life she lived while married to Kanyari.
She confessing living in emotional torture, but still held on because she was afraid of what people would say. She ended up being depressed.
“Few years ago, I used to live in fear I was afraid of almost everything. I feared being gossip, I was naïve, many people took advantages of me I would say sorry even when ni mimi nmekosewa, I dint (sic) know how to say no and speak for myself, Job 3:25 for the thing I feared has overtaken me,” she wrote.
She added: “I feared being gossip negatively I stayed in abusive relationships because of fear, I would stomach openly humiliation coz (sic) afraid of what people will say, I got into depression was losing my mind but God pick me up again.”
However, when enough was enough, she walked out and life has never been the same again.
In a separate post, Betty urged women to love themselves just the way they are adding that trying to be someone else to please your partner always hurts and lowers self-esteem.
She recalled that she once bleached herself to please a man she was dating but that was not enough to make him stay. He dumped her.
“I once fell in love with a young man I was sure he will marry me. I loved and adored him, he claimed he loved me too and he would marry me if only I was light-skinned (rangi ya thau) I decided to remove my legs from the sack, mimi huyoo River Road,” she narrated.
However, she added: “The next thing he told me he will marry me if only I was a bit taller.”
This forced her to change her shoes. She struggled to walk in high heels to appear tall just like her boyfriend wanted but he still dumped her.
“Weee my friend nilikua natembea na high heels throughout karibu niende nazo kwa choo to make him happy. Along the way he dumped me leaving me looking like a confused chameleon…Yellow face, black legs, blue hands, I had no choice than to go back to factory setting.”
