Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has spoken of an incident where he allegedly threatened former commissioner Roselyn Akombe.
Shortly after Akombe secretly flew out of the country to New York after the 2017 polls, Chiloba sent her an email interpreted to be a threat.
In the email, he wrote: “Dear Roselyn, do not attempt to rewrite history, our silence is not your silence, yours, Ezra.”
On Wednesday he told KTN in an interview that he did not mean to threaten Akombe.
Chiloba explained that he wrote her the message as a friend who cared about her.
“The reason I actually wrote that email at the time is because of the common history we have with her, so I considered her as a sister and I could write to her and tell her please you need to go slow on these things. It also pains us,” he noted.
Akombe has been critical of the IEBC since her departure in 2017.
At the time Chiloba wrote her the email, he says they were all going through hard times at the commission.
“All of us were hurt due to the events of the 2017 elections, we worked as a team and we needed to take responsibility for every decision that we made at the time.
He remarked that it was paining to her vindictive tweets from Akombe after all they went through.
“But what we kept on seeing, is the frequency of attacks on our character, throwing out accusations while we kept quiet all that while, for us it’s personal. My colleagues and I were under attack from her. Every time when we saw those tweets from her, we were always concerned about what they meant,” Chiloba he said.
