Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has cleared the air on how he accumulated his wealth to dismantle a narrative that he is involved in graft.

He says his wealth is not related to business dealings with his late brother, the late Nderitu Gachagua as it has been alleged.

“We never did any business with Nyeri county, we were never going to do it, and I want people to stop pursing my brother when he is resting, let him rest in peace,” the MP told Citizen TV news night on Tuesday.

“Anyone who has evidence that we did business with the county, bring it on,” he adds.

Rigathi says he has been in many businesses within the last 40 years, his most prolific being organizing discos back when he was in the university. He also had owned a candy factory which gave him a lot of profits.

“I’m a prudent businessman, I started doing business 40 years ago. At the university we used to get Ksh2600 as boom, I would organize discos and pick half of the money from these guys; I had a car, I had a factory for sweets,” he explained.

Rigathi, a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto said graft charges he faces over alleged Ksh12 billion theft are ‘political persecution.’

His bank accounts have been frozen over Ksh202 million found in the accounts alleged to be proceeds of embezzlement from the public kitty.

DCI says that the Mathira MP used 22 proxy companies to siphon Ksh12.5 billion from fraudulently acquired tenders.

But, the MP who once served as the personal assistant to President Uhuru Kenyatta when he was a minister holds that all this is because he supports Ruto.

“Why did they not pursue me when I was supporting President Uhuru? When I was his PA? I have done legitimate businesses with the National Government and other people, when the matter comes up for mentioning next month, I will account for every cent I have made,” he said.
