President Uhuru Kenyatta has told opposition leader Raila Odinga to stop opposing everything about the repeat polls.

This follows NASA’s pronouncement that there will be no elections on October 26 and also projection of resistance towards Electoral law amendments championed by Jubilee Party.

Wenzetu wanasema walifurahia uamuzi wa Korti, sahi wanasema mambo ya masharti. Jameni uchaguzi sio haki ya kiongozi ni haki ya mwananchi and Bunge ifanye kazi yake,” Uhuru said according to the Star in Busia on Friday.

This loosely translates to, “Our friends said they were happy with the Supreme Court ruling, and now they are talking about conditions. Elections are not the rights of politicians, they are the rights of citizens. Let Parliament perform its duties.”

On Thursday, NASA walked out of a consultative meeting with Jubilee and NASA at the Bomas of Kenya.

Uhuru added that Raila was making every effort in frustrating the repeat polls by calling for mass protests.

“Will demonstrations help you get more votes? They can’t. Go and sell your agenda to voters. You cannot be happy with one decision then you fail to follow the Court’s conditions [calling for fresh polls] in 60 days. Where is the problem? As Jubilee we have not put any conditions,” charged the President.

Raila has declared to hold weekly demos; on Monday and Friday until IEBC reforms are realized and against electoral amendments by Jubilee.

He said electoral laws are good for the country.

“Have we made a mistake? [Raila] insulted me saying I’m a computer-generated president. Our greatest need is for elections to be held so that every citizen has a chance to vote peacefully.”

Deputy President William Ruto took a jibe at Raila saying not even the President who is the Chief of armed forces can stop the repeat polls.

“Uhuru is the commander-in-chief and he cannot stop the election. Are you a witchdoctor? How will you stop it. Stop cheating Kenyans, we know your tricks,” said Ruto.

“You’re holding demonstrations because you don’t want elections. We want all our citizens, even those without shoes, to decide who their president is.”
