A Greensburg paper is reporting of an incident involving a 38-year-old Kenyan man suspected of rape at Baymont Inn at 2317 N. SR 3. The incident is said to have happened shortly before 1:30 on Wednesday.

According to the paper, court records show that Mr. Muriithi of Hoffman Estates, Illinois was arrested on a preliminary charge of rape. ”An oral probable cause hearing took place in Decatur County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon, after which Muriithi was formally charged with rape, a Level 3 felony, according to court records.” Reports greensburgdailynews.com

He is suspected to have engaged in a sex act on a young woman while she was “unaware that the sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct is occurring,” according to court documents.

If convicted, Muriithi could be jailed for up to 16 years.

At the time of this reporting, no more details about the case were available to the press.

In November, another Kenyan man from Kansas was arrested and charged with rape, accused of jumping into a stranger’s car outside a nightclub, driving away with a sleeping woman and sexually assaulting her by the side of the road.

Elsewhere in Alabama, a 26-year-old woman faces criminal prosecution after Homewood police say she lied about being raped. During the course of the investigation, Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said detectives found multiple inconsistencies in Niedermeyer’s story. The findings of the investigation, including those inconsistencies, were presented to the Homewood Municipal Court magistrate and a warrant was issued against her for false reporting to law enforcement officials.
