Kenya’s Immigration Department has rolled out a new mechanism to deliver passports to successful applicants.
On Thursday, Immigration Director General Alexander Muteshi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Post Master General Dan Kagwe which will have Posta Kenya deliver passports directly to applicants.
This is in a bid to tame the spread of coronavirus at the Immigration offices as well as expedite the whole process. It will also reduce congestion at the Immigration offices following the outbreak of coronavirus.
Muteshi in a statement said this arrangement is currently on pilot but will be rolled out fully starting September 1, 2020.7.30
“Through the initiative, passport applicants will not have to visit our offices to pick ready passports. This will significantly save time for applicants, reduce congestion in our offices, and help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19,” the Immigration Department said on Thursday.

In a separate statement, the department encouraged those who would like to visit Kenya to apply for visasa online.
This, Immigration said, that this “is highly encouraged especially in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Online passport application services have been operation since May in line with guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
Other services available online from the Immigration Department include online work permits and online foreigner certificate applications.
