Davis Mwabili, popularly known as Inspekta Mwala has quit his radio job after 13 years.
Inspekta Mwala has been working with Royal Media Services-owned Radio Citizen for over a decade from where he grew his acting career of the popular “Inspekta Mwala” drama show that has also been airing on Citizen TV for more a decade.
On Wednesday, he took his fans by surprise when he announced that he was doing his last show at the station.
He co-hosted alongside Vincent Ateya when he made the news.
“Today is my last day at Radio Citizen. I am doing this morning show and will also host Drive On in the evening. I am grateful to the station and to the fans who have been tuning in for so many years,” he said.
Inspekta Mwala has co-hosted with different radio personalities at the station in the past years where he tickled listeners during his “Jambo Kenya” show that runs from 6 am to 10 am daily.
He said that he felt it was time to move on and have more time with family adding that his resignation was not in any way driven by ill feelings.
Inspekta Mwala maintained that he was looking forward to spending more time with his grandmother back in his home village in Taita Taveta.
Comically, he told his fans to feel free to buy him “meat” when they bump into him in the streets.
“When you meet me in the streets buy me meat,” he told his listeners.
In a survey by Geopol, Radio Citizen’s Jambo Kenya show was ranked top in March, April and May 2020, a period when the country was battling the first cases of COVID-19.
Jambo Kenya boasts of a listenership of 1.4 million people.
In a tweet, Radio Citizen’s management wished the ex-radio personality a happy life.
“Kila la heri @inspektamwala umekuwa sehemu ya familia na daima utakuwa kutoka #JamboKenya tunakutakia mema katika maisha yako,” they tweeted.
