A few days ago, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka was caught in the eye of a storm after a woman claimed he has neglected her with their unborn child.
The lady in question is Irene Mutaki.
She sued the Senate Speaker through lawyer Danstan Omari seeking child support of Ksh200,000 monthly upkeep or a lump sum of Ksh25 million.
But who is Irene?
She is a politician based in Western Kenya. She vied for the Webuye East parliamentary seat in the 2017 elections but was trounced by the incumbent Daniel Wanyama.
Irene contested the seat on a Ford Kenya party ticket. She is described a loyal member of the party who heavily campaigned for the top candidates in Bungoma County vying on a Ford Kenya ticket.
She later nominated to the Bungoma County Assembly by the Moses Wetangula led party.
Unfortunately, her nomination was later revoked after out cry from different quarters. Her youth docket at the assembly was taken over by Luke Opwora from Kanduyi.
Omari told the court that Lusaka has been in a relationship with his client since 2018 and only ended it in May 2021 when she told him that of the pregnancy.
“The cause of their disagreement was exacerbated by Lusaka’s insistence on terminating the pregnancy, a proposal that the applicant declined to accede to and now she is three months pregnant and counting since she discovered that she was expectant of Lusaka’s child as she has not been intimate with any other man other than the respondent, a fact that can be confirmed through a prenatal paternity test,” court papers read in part.
Currently, she is undergoing pregnancy complication which she is fearful could lead to a miscarriage.
