Former US Secretary of State John Kerry is leading the US Observer Mission set to arrive in Kenya next week to monitor the elections.

Kerry will co-lead the team from The Carter Center, a non-profit founded by former president Jimmy Carter to promote democracy and human rights around the world.

The team will check compliance with electoral laws, preparedness of the IEBC, security apparatus provided and the general conduct during the voting process.

Kerry and others in his cohort will meet party candidates, civil society organizations, government officials, and all other observers including local officials and international election observer missions.

Godec said that Kenya remains a key US partner in the promotion of regional security and as a hub for humanitarian assistance, finance, and transportation.
