Joho is not a god, Marwa charges after Mombasa billboard row escalates

Firebrand Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has found himself at odds once again with Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa in a billboard row that has taken over Coast politics.

The Star reports that Marwa warned Joho of oppressing his competitors by denying them space to erect their billboards.

He said Joho already has too many billboards spread across Mombasa and it would only be fair to allow other candidates erect theirs as well.

The fiery Marwa bashed the governor telling him to stop behaving like a “god”.

“Anajipigapiga kifua hapa akitupimia hewa. Kwani yeye ni Mungu ndiyo anatupimia tuvute hewa ya kiasi gani? asked Marwa at the Mtongwe ferry Channel on Thursday.

In English, it loosely translates to: “He [Joho] is chest-thumping and measuring our air to breath. Is he God so that he limits our air to breath to this extent?”

“What is so special about Mombasa such that others cannot put up billboards? His billboards are all over from the airport to the town center.”

Joho had sued gubernatorial hopeful Hezron Awiti for allegedly mounting a billboard without the consent of the county government.

He also directed advertising companies not to erect any billboard of his opposers.

Joho sarcastically hit out at the Governor telling him to bring down the billboards and feed them to Mombasa electorate.

“’Does he think citizens will eat billboards? Let him unmount them and feed them to wananchi.”

He told Joho’s competitors to erect their billboards and warned the county’s inspectorate department of pulling down any of them.

Minutes before his arrival at the Mtongwe Ferry Channel, the inspectorate team was pulling down some billboards.

“Place your billboards wherever you want even if you are an MCA or governor aspirant. Let them take them down,” charged the Coast Regional Coordinator.

He also warned the court against issuing oppressive orders in the billboard row.

“That court should be careful or I am going to invade it with a special unit and shut it down.”
