A record 497 people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi announced on Tuesday.
The total cases are now 10,791.

A sample of 4922 samples were tested according to Dr Mwangangi.

This comes as 41 staffers of Pumwani Hospital in Nairobi tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Acting Health Director-General, the 41 were from 290 samples tested by the Ministry of Health.

“All these 41 have been on home home-based care isolation and two have been discharged from home-based isolation care. The remaining 39 are doing well,” Amoth said adding that another 100 staff will be tested.

Among the 41 are 14 nurses, two medical officers, two clinical officers, and one laboratory officer.

Amoth said that 429 health workers have been exposed to the virus but the government is offering a helping hand as they self-isolate at home.

Also, a bodyguard attached to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho tested positive.

He said that he contracted the virus as he escorted Joho to Nairobi for a Senate hearing.

On a brighter note, 71 more people were discharged bringing the full recoveries to 3,017.

Sadly, five people died bringing the death toll to 202.
