Kenyan journalist, Walter Baraza wanted by the ICC for witness tampering in the collapsed case involving DP William Ruto says he will surrender to the Hague-based criminal court.

Baraza says he has been carrying a heavy load and it is time he lets it go by giving up himself to the ICC.

He says he is now broke and every prospective employer views him with the lenses of an ICC-sought-after journalist while others view him as a Jubilee agent.

He told the Star that his financial situation has hit the rocks as he cannot afford to pay his house rent yet his friends view him as a millionaire.

“I am not even able to pay rent because nobody is ready to employ me. In Western Kenya where I come from, I am seen as a Jubilee agent,” says he.

ICC first issued a warrant of arrest for Baraza on October 2, 2013 over allegations he bribed witnesses set to testify against Ruto at the ICC.

This was the time that the case was at its peak and with his alleged tampering and consequent collapsing, Baraza is in for a big one as ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda bays for his blood.

Baraza now says the journey for the last five years has been strenuous and all he wants is to clear his name before judges at the ICC.

He has instructed his lawyers- Kibe Mungai, Katwa Kigen and Gatonye Waweru to hasten his extradition to the Hague.

“I hope they will take note of the instructions because I have explained to them in detail a number of reasons to the effect of my desire to clear my name.

“The only way to redeem myself is to clear my name from the ICC allegations, erase the wild perceptions from the public and start life with the hope that God will grant me and my family more days,” he adds.
