KDF soldiers raid Al-Shabaab camp, kill 15

Kenyan troops in Somalia successfully felled 15 Al-Shabaab militants on Monday in their camp tucked in Catamaa, about 100 kilometers from the Kenyan border town of Elwak.

The soldiers used artillery and mortar fire to destroy the camp according to a statement released by Colonel Joseph Owuoth on Tuesday at the Department of Defense.

He added that scores of other militants allied to the outlawed terror group managed to escape with injuries following the brutal attack by Kenyan troops. No Kenyan however, was injured in the Monday attack.

Colonel Owuoth maintained that the troops will continue executing their mandate and ensure that Somali residents live peacefully.

“The Kenya Defence Forces wishes to assure the public that operations against the Al-Shabaab will continue until all the terrorists are eliminated to ensure that the locals continue to enjoy peace and security,” he said in the statement.

The fight to weed out the terror group in Somalia began in 2011 after Kenyan troops were deployed in the country to end a life-long menace by the group.

Al-shabaab has been fighting to overthrow the government since 2007 but they have been suppressed in the recent past through AMISOM forces.

The country’s first President, Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo was elected on February 8. He has given a 60-day ultimatum for the insurgents to surrender.
