Kenya’s national carrier Kenya Airways has announced discounted rates for Nairobi-New York flights booked before December 10, 2020.

The airline made the announcement soon after resuming the direct flights which have remained grounded for more than 10 months.

“Welcome back to the Big Apple! Today we resume our service between Nairobi and New York, and we can’t wait to welcome you on board. Book your ticket via https://kenya-airways.com/en-ke/flights-to-new-york… before December 10th to enjoy discounted rates,” KQ said in a tweet.

The November 29 flight came three months after international flights resumed in Kenyan following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, KQ boss Allan Kilavuka had stated that the airline is keen on rebuilding its business ties with the US through the resumption of direct flights John F Kennedy Airport in New York.

“The New York-Nairobi route is key toward rebuilding and reconnecting our global network as we see great signs of optimism in the recovery of air travel since we resumed flights in July. This optimism is also driven by the easing of restrictions for both transit and inbound passengers in Kenya as well as the robust health and safety measures that are in place to protect them and our staff,” he said.

On October 30, a scheduled direct flight to the US was cancelled at the last minute in what KQ said was occasioned by massive cancellations.

“We greatly appreciate the internet and support of our customers who had booked with us and have made alternative arrangements for their travel,” KQ Corporate Communications said in the statement.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Before the October flight cancellation, KQ has stated that there will be two weekly flights from Nairobi to New York.
