Kenyan flights to London could be suspended barely two months after the resumption of international flights.

Kenya’s national carrier, Kenya Airways has said that it is contemplating pulling its flights to London off as well as France as passenger demand declines sharply.

Both London and France have lockdown for a second time following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

This is what has slowed down travel demand on these two routes which are among the most popular for KQ in the European market.

Now, the airline says that it is looking at the impact of lockdown in London and France with the intent to make changes to its flight schedule.

“Following the announcement of the lockdown measures in England and France, we are assessing any possible impact to our flight schedule. If your flight will be affected, we will contact you to advise on the alternative,” KQ said in a statement.

KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka last week said that low passenger demand to Paris would lead to the suspension of flights to France. The airline is yet to issue a final decision on the fate of KQ flights to Paris.

UK Prime Minister Borris Johnson placed England on a 14-day lockdown over virus surge while France and Germany have once again been placed on total lockdown.

While imposing the lockdown in France, President Emmanuel Macron said that the country was overpowered by the second wave of coronavirus.

In London, France and Germany, health experts had called on the respective governments to impose lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus since their intensive care units were nearly full.

When Kenya resumed international flights on August 1, London was the most popular route in Europe for KQ.

This comes as Kenya Airways cancelled the first direct flight to the US last Saturday. It was scheduled to take off after a seven-month hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline in a statement said that it was forced to cancel the flight due to massive flight cancellations by travellers heading to major US cities.

Kenya Airways (KQ) indicated that the direct flights to the US from Kenya will resume on November 29.
