An American citizen, Isaac Sturgeon who fled to Kenya over his role in the US Capitol insurrection on January 6 has been deported by Kenyan authorities.

Sturgeon has been the wanted list by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

Following his deportation, he was captured by FBI officials on Saturday at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York upon landing.

Details shared by FBI cite that Sturgeon was captured by a body camera belonging to one of the police men during the insurrection. He was one of those who lifted a metal barricade belonging to the police and he threw it to where the police officers stood.

He had donned a green jacket with a green scarf, grey had and a backpack on the fateful day.

“On January 16, 2021, the FBI posted to its website a photograph of Sturgeon, among others, seeking the public’s assistance in identifying him. Through tips and open source searches, law enforcement identified several social media accounts associated with Sturgeon, including an Instagram account with several pictures and comments describing the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021,” a document seen by Jamhuri News reads in part.

It added: “One of the photos posted on or about January 6, 2021 showed Sturgeon among other protesters at the Capitol grounds, wearing the same outfit captured on the body camera footage.”

Sturgeon is reportedly said to have been in possession of an assortment of weapons and that the FBI was informed of this by someone who knew him.

FBI investigation into his Facebook page found one of Sturgeon’s photos holding a rifle dated November 28, 2020

Sturgeon fled to Kenya on January 24, two weeks after the insurrection and was scheduled to return on April 5, 2021, if details on his return ticket are anything to go by.
