Kenya Diaspora Alliance congratulates UhuRuto for re-election

The Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for their re-election.

Chairman Dr Shem Ochuodho in a congratulatory message urged the two leaders to focus on uniting the country and deal with corruption.

“It cannot be business as usual; the next five years must be different. Kenyans can’t accept to be held back any longer by these two vices,” said the KDA chair as quoted by the Star.

A total of 4, 393 Kenyans living in five African countries voted in Tuesday’s polls.

President Uhuru Kenyatta got 1504 votes while NASA’s Raila Odinga got 1321 votes.

Dr Ochuodho also congratulated other winners in the race and thanked NASA leadership for putting up a spirited campaign against the winning Jubilee.

However, he urged the opposition to seek legal redress in its concerns that the polls were rigged.

“KDA too feels there was a predictive sprouting of Presidential figures that was suspicious. However, only a professional forensic audit will establish the truth and lay to rest any such fears,” he opined.

NASA has rejected the election results. They have however, not said if they will contest them at the Supreme Court.

Ochuodho also urged the Jubilee regime to create a dedicated Ministry of Diaspora Affairs to deal with Diaspora matters.

“In the alternative, Foreign [ministry] should be restructured and renamed ‘Foreign and Diaspora Affairs’ to give the ministry appropriate mandate to deal with this increasingly crucial segment of our society.”
