Kenya has recorded the first death of a coronavirus patient.

A statement released by the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that the deceased was 66 years old and had been receiving treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital.

“The 66-year-old male Kenyan citizen who passed on this afternoon had been admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital Intensive Care Unit,” part of the statement read.

The deceased is reported to have traveled to Kenya from South Africa via Swaziland on March 13.

This death comes in the wake of fear of the rapid spread of the virus due to “indiscipline cases” by Kenyans.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since declared a 7 pm to 5 am curfew starting Friday, March 27, 2020.
