Kenya records new 796 COVID-19 cases in a single day

The number of COVID-19 cases is alarmingly shooting with 796 cases being recorded on Thursday alone.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 15,601

Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi while giving the daily update on Thursday said 6,754 samples were tested bringing cumulative samples tested so far to 261,027.

Males who tested positive in the last 24 hours are 501 while 203 are female. The youngest is one year old while the oldest is 87.

Nonetheless, 378 people have been discharged bringing the total recoveries to 7,135. A majority of those discharged were under home-based care – 199 – while 179 were in hospital.

Sadly, three more patients died bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 263.

Dr Mwangangi noted that 89 percent of the new infections are asymptomatic.

With the percentage, it means that in the new 796 cases recorded on Thursday, 708 of the patients were asymptomatic.
