Kenya signs security deal with a Chinese tech firm

The Kenyan government has inked a security deal with a Chinese technology firm-Huawei. The deal will see police in Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret equipped with modern communication systems.

This was made public on Sunday during Uhuru’s meeting with the firm’s officials in Beijing. The police will receive high-end 6 eNodeB Stations, 150 Radio Trunking Terminals and a Radio Trunking System Core Network and Dispatch System.

In a different deal, the company is to develop a Government cloud services project for the country, designing and building Government Cloud infrastructure where all government data and applications will be stored. This includes data exchange and sharing platforms to integrate government services.

Huawei will also train 30 Kenyan youth in Information Communication Technology over a period of three years. The firm has modernized police surveillance systems in Kenya’s major cities and has majorly contributed to the development of  SGR.
