A Kenyan-born teen living in the United States has been signed to an American soccer club in Seattle.
Handwalla Bwana signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Seattle on a homegrown contract.
Prior to joining Seattle Sounders, Bwana had been playing for University of Washington.
Since graduating from Ballard High school two years ago, the 18-year old has been playing for the University.
In expression of his bliss in joining the new team, Bwana who was born in Mombasa said as quoted by Nairobi News: “It is an unbelievable moment.”
“I never actually thought I’d be a pro from where I come,” he noted. “I remember going to sounders for games for the first time, and it was incredible. The atmosphere was something I had never seen before. Being able to sign to sign as a Homegrown, I can’t believe it.”
The club’s Vice President of Soccer and sporting activities Chris Henderson was all praises for Bwana after his signing.
“Handwalla is a guy who put the defense off-balance. He’s proven it at the University of Washington and with our Academy. He can score goals. He creates chances for himself , and he’s great at running at guys with the ball,” said he.
His family first settled in Atalanta, Georgia before moving to Seattle.
