Kenyan boxer Brian Agina has gone missing in Gold Coast, Australia after the completion of 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games on yesterday.

He reportedly went missing from Athletes Village on Sunday night.

Australian authorities have launched a manhunt for him. According to Citizen Digital, The Boxing Association of Kenya president John Kameta said they reported the matter to the Chef de Mission Barnabas Korir.

The 18-year old pugilist left the Village at Gold Coast without any form of identification and only carried a small back pack.

“He has left his big bag in the village. Yesterday when I came to the village I was denied access. He (Agina) was a little bit worried about his performance but I talked and encouraged him since he is still young and has a bright future ahead,” Kimeta told Citizen Digital.

Kimeta said Agina has borrowed USD 100 (around Sh10, 000) from Olympian Ben Gicharu to buy headsets prior to going AWOL.

“We still have his passport with us. It has become a challenge for us to deal with civilian boxers. We thought holding their passports would prevent them from running way but that is not possible. We need to get a way to deal with them,” he said.

Agina lost to Pakistan’s Syed Muhammad Asif in the 16th round.
