A man from Bomet County in Kenya, Geoffrey Chepkwony who has been living in the US was last week found dead in Texas.

Reports indicate that his body was found on August 29 in a bayou at 49 San Jacinto Street in Houston.

Chepkwony relocated to the US after getting a green card.

A Kenyan who lived with him in the US, Sam Makaya said that Chepkwony has no family there and was at one point on medication to treat a certain mental problem.

Last Makaya saw Chepkwony was on August 26 only to get a call four days later from the medical examiner’s office with the sad news.

The medical examiner ran Chepkwony’s fingerprints through a database which is when Makaya was found as the listed contact.

A report by the Houston Police Department (HPD) stated that the deceased’s body was found by members of the pubic who informed the police.

“Witnesses reported seeing a body in Buffalo Bayou near a bridge at the above address. The HPD Dive Team responded to the scene to recover the body,” a report on HPD’s website states.

Police say it was difficult to trace his contacts because he had no identification on him at the time of death.

Preliminary investigations according to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Olive and Detective S. Sylvester is that there were no trauma signs on the deceased.

Police have, however, promised to continue investigating his cause of death.

Plans are also underway to airlift his body back to Kenya for burial.

Kenyans living in Huston are pooling resources to aid in sending back the body to Kenya for burial.
