A Kenyan man in his mid-20s who slipped and fell into a river in Canada two weeks ago is yet to be found.

Meredith Sambu is said to have slipped and fell backwards into the Squamish River on May 13. He was on a camping expedition with friends at the Ashlu Forest Service Road.

He is the son to Pamela Otenyo, a deputy immigration officer.

Witnesses told police the incident happened at night making it difficult for them to trace him.

Though death by drowning cannot be ruled out, Canadian police are still out searching for him.

“We are asking those in the area who see anything in the river or along the riverbanks to contact the RCMP immediately,” a Canadian online news site, The Chief, quoted Cpl. Sasha Banks as having said on May 13.

On May 23, The Chief quoted Banks stating “There are daily efforts being made by Squamish RCMP as well as coinciding searches from Squamish SAR.”

A police helicopter according to the Canadian Police boss has been in the search operation in the area.

Search and rescues teams on boat and land with a police dog and uniformed officers have also not found Sambu.

With the snow having melted, the Squamish River flows aggressively.

In regard to the missing of the Kenyan man a fortnight later, Mayor Patricia Heintzman told The Chief “Water can look tame, but it’s relentless. It’s powerful. We have logjams and other hazards on the river, people need to respect it and understand it, and be very careful around it.”
