An MP’s daughter who had been dragged to court together with his Muslim boyfriend on grounds they have links with al-shabaab have been released by the court.

North Mugirango MP Charles Mong’are’s daughter Erisiana Sabiri, 24, together with her boyfriend Ahmed Salim were alleged to have links with an outlawed terrorist group.

But when they appeared before a Nairobi Court on Monday, the magistrate Martha Motuko released the two citing there is no terrorism case but just a parenting issue.

“There is no issue of terrorism here. It is just an issue of parenting. I have decided to release the two respondents to their parents,” she said as told by the Star.

Sabiri had appeared before the court on Friday and the Magistrate ruled that her father should present himself before her to shed more light on the terrorism link claims.

But he did not appear as was expected, forcing Sabiri to be taken to Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) from where her father is expected to pick her.

Sabiri accused the dad of colluding with police and fabricating the malicious claims in a bid to end the relationship.

Her boyfriend said: “We are happy. We have been in remand since Thursday but this will not stop our love. We are in love and we have told the court the same.”

“I will go home and take a hot shower and probably take her out to watch a movie. But I am afraid that once Sabiri is picked by her father, he will try to detain her.”

Salim also said the  MP tried to coerce him to initiate a breakup so that he would drop the charges but he did not give in.

The two are required to report to ATPU once a week in the next month.
