Kenyan professor visiting the US drowns while swimming in Florida

A Kenyatta University professor last week drowned while swimming in Florida.

Dr. George Muhia, drowned on August 10, 2017, as he, together with family and friends went snorkeling at a lake in Florida.

George went into the water, and when his colleagues noticed that he took longer to resurface than he had taken in previous two instances, they jumped in and retrieved him.

He was rushed to the hospital by the paramedics where he passed away moments later.

George studied at the University of Florida and was a long time resident of Gainesville, Florida together with his wife Lilian and their kids Victor and Victoria until 2007 when they moved back to Kenya.

He had traveled to the US with his wife and two children and were to return home on August 20th, 2017.

He was a professor at Kenyatta University in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Technology

There will be prayers and Requiem mass this Friday, August, 18th 2017 at 12:00 pm at St. Augustine Church in Gainesville, right opposite the University.
