Kenyan students shine in Huawei Global Final ICT Competition

A group of Kenyan students have made it to Huawei’s ICT Global Final slated for November.

The students from JKUAT, Laikipia University, Multimedia University, and the University of Nairobi were among the top eight out of 40 African teams competing in the Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa ICT Competition.

About 50,000 students from Sub-Saharan Africa participated in the regional ICT competition which was an online competition.

So far, this is the highest number of entries in the Huawei Sub-Saharan ICT competition.

Already, 250 universities in Sub-Saharan Africa have signed a cooperation agreement with the tech giant. Among the beneficiaries are South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya where students now have Huawei ICT certification.

The certification gives them an upper hand when it comes to matters ICT in the digital age.

Huawei Vice President Hou Tao remarked that the enthusiasm exuded by the students is on another level.

He pledged to build skill and talent in the country.

“As a private company serving the African market for over 20 years, Huawei has dedicated itself to and will always remain a trusted partner of governments and academia in building ICT talent pool, strengthening capacity building and increasing people’s digital competence,” Hou said.

The Huawei ICT Competition is Africa’s biggest skill nurturing hub which has been operational for the last five years.

It has a reputation for being advanced with the latest technology in the market.
