Kenyans amused after hailstorm in Nyahururu, motorists stop for pictures

Snow in Kenya is rare sight. However, with the cold July month setting on, residents of Nyahururu,Laikipia County on Tuesday were treated to a rare spectacle after sections of roads in the area were covered in hails after a heavy hailstorm.

In particular Rumuruti-Nyahururu road and Nyahururu-Maralal road were covered with what locals termed as snow.

Motorist plying the route were forced to stop and take pictures which they later posed on social media platforms.

Minutes after, social media was abuzz with the rare sight in Nyahururu which is within the vicinity of Mt Kenya, Africa’s second largest mountain.

“Winter iko Kenya already…Thank God you out of Nyahururu,”read a facebook post from Nganga Nyokabi.

Another one comically said that with such low temperatures, people will avoid showers.

“Unaosha tu soap dish na slippers hiyo story unafunga (You only wash the soap dish and slippers and close that chapter),” wrote Hazard Kiarie.

Others made fun of it using memes.

“Just in….USIU now relocated to nyahururu…stuedents go home for winter break….sema tricky sana…..” read one
