Twenty-nine more people have tested positive for coronavirus putting the country’s total tally of recorded coronavirus cases to 110, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has stated.

Further, two more COVID-19 patients have succumbed to the illness.

The CS said that the worst is yet to hit the country but he anticipates the number of those who test positive to “increase exponentially”.

He directed that all matatu, tuk tuk and boda boda operators take elaborate measures henceforth in containing the spread of the virus.

In Mombasa, the county government will start mass testing for coronavirus from Wednesday next week. The county government has also directed everyone to wear a face mask while in public spaces within the county.

Governor Hassan Joho said Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in the county will produce masks for the residents.

” We will by then have the capacity to test about 600 people a day,” Joho said.

Joho, together with Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo received 10 ventilators worth Sh60 million. The ventilators are crucial in the treatment of COVID-19.

Coast General Hospital CEO Iqbal Khandwala said the new ventilators will enable the referral hospital to handle 50 “critical COVID-19 should the need arise”.
