They never knew what the world had to offer until a video of them arguing at a local shop in the interiors of Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County emerged and took Kenyans by storm.
This is the story of two siblings; James Mwangi and Teresiah Nyakinyua whose rather brother-sister rivalry first entertained Kenyans but drew a cloud of sympathy after realizing that their argument over Ksh10 was out of abject poverty that they live in.
A viral video of Mwangi who is in Class Two and Nyakinyua in Class One emerged early in the week at Baba Watiri’s shop – a local shopkeeper in Murangine ward where they live – and the bone of contention was a HB pencil and rubber all for just Ksh10.
Touched by their plight, comedian and radio personality Muthee Kiengei Watoria took it upon himself to find out about the two siblings. He set out for Ol Kalou on Wednesday where he met the family and was deeply shocked to find that they live on squalor.
The family of seven children live in a tiny worn-out mud house with the youngest, five-year-old Baby Njoki being handicapped. For them, clothes are a luxury too expensive to afford and they have had to make do with tattered clothes.
With the shocking reality for the family, Kiengei mobilized well-wishers who have since set out to make life better for the family. A proper house will be put up starting next week courtesy of Dhahabu Land Limited and Ruiru Mabati Factory.
Thika MP Patrick Wainaina alias Wainaina wa Jungle bought a fully equipped, modern wheelchair for young Njoki who was not able to move previously due to her disability.
A host of other well-wishers have donated foodstuff, clothes, furniture, Hass Avocado seedlings for future investment, school supplies among other things.

JamboPay CEO Danson Muchemi has pledged to cater for Mwangi’s education until he completes his secondary education.
The team is also working on ensuring that the eldest daughter who joined Form One tis year just for a few weeks and later dropped out gets back to school when they re-open.
She has been selling tea to bodaboda riders to eke a living for her and family.
