Kenya’s COVID-19 death toll now 659 after nine succumb to virus

Kenya recorded 139 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 37,218.

Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said 1,774 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Out of the 139 new cases confirmed on Tuesday, 14 are foreigners.

Of Tuesday’s new cases, 112 were male and 22 were female while the youngest case was four-year-old child and the oldest was aged 82.

On a bright note, 198 patient have recovered, 46 of whom were home-based programme and 152 from hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 24,147.

Sadly, nine patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 659.

With relaxed measures announced for burials, those with underlying conditions have been asked to stay be cautious and stay away from such activities.

The CAS said that it was realized that dead bodies have little or no chances of transmission.

Earlier, funeral ceremonies for COVID-19 victims had public health officials in full PPE gear colour the event in a bid to shield the public from contracting the virus.
