Kenya’s entertainment industry low moment as Big Kev takes final bow

Kenya’s entertainment industry is mourning the death of True Blaq- founder Kevin Ombajo alias Big Kev.

He succumbed to a brain tumor that he has been fighting for the last 10 years. He died at Nairobi hospital on Saturday.

He had turned blind due to the many surgeries he has had since his diagnosis in 2006. In an earlier interview with the Standard, he said he has had 10 surgeries.

President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogized him as a person who inspired a generation.

Uhuru said that even with his sickness, Big Kev always managed to rise above it. He was a gospel singer before venturing into the events industry.

“Saddened by Big Kev’s passing. Against all odds, you prevailed again and again”.

Rapper King Kaka eulogized the late event organizer. “Rest in the skies. You have shaped a music generation,” said Kaka.

Radio personality Ciru Muriuki eulogized the late Big Kev as the only event organizer who picked calls when no other organizer would pick.

She termed him a great mentor.

“The only one guy who would pick calls when no one else would. A great mentor. An icon. Sleep well, gallant warrior,” she posted on her twitter page.

In October last year, the entertainment industry came together and held a fundraiser to help Big Kev access treatment in India.
