DCI detectives have closed in on a five-member gang that has been terrorizing Little Cab taxi operators in Kiambu County.
The gang notoriously known for its vandalism consist of Peter Njoroge, John Muchoki, John Kimani, Peter Mwangi and Benson Itimu.
A statement by the DCI said that the gang has been targeting Little Cab taxis especially those operating in Kiambu, Kirigiti, Githurai and Ruiru.
One of the gang members has mastered the art of deception and pulls off as a passenger in need of transport.
However, he is the one who drives leads the driver by force to a secluded area where his friends are in wait.
From the back seat, she squeezes the drivers neck and orders him to drive to his destination.
Drivers who have fallen victim to the gang said that they are robbed and assaulted and their cars vandalized.
“The driver is then robbed of his valuables after being assaulted and his vehicle vandalized,” DCI boss George Kinoti said.
He referred to an incident a week ago where one of the suspects requested for a ride on Little Cabs using a fake name. He was to commute from Kimbo in Ruiru to Kirigiti in Kiambu.
He told the driver that he was to fetch his sick mother.
“The unsuspecting cab driver set off for the journey but on reaching Kirigiti where they were supposed to pick an ailing woman, a male adult emerged and entered the vehicle instead. The vehicle was then commandeered to Sasisni coffee bushes where three more thugs emerged,” he said.
The robbers then vandalised the vehicle making away with the headlights, taillights, side mirrors, mirror switches, car battery and the spare wheel.
“No sooner had detectives completed their investigations on this incident, than the gang carjacked two other cab drivers in a similar fashion, robbing them of their valuables before vandalising their vehicles and abandoning them in Mwihoko, Githurai,” Kinoti stated.
DCI followed leads which led to the arrest of the gang members conducted by DCI officers in Ruiru and Githurai.
