Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe has lost her seat after the Kiambu High Court declared it was marred by massive poll irregularities.

Her election was challenged by Clement Waibara, a former MP of the area.

Judge Joel Ngugi on Thursday ordered for fresh polls and both IEBC and Kibe to pay Sh6 million to the petitioner in cost.

During the hearing of the petition, the Judge ordered for vote scrutiny in 28 polling stations.

In the August 8 polls, Kibe was declared the winner after garnering over 39, 400.

In response to the court’s pronouncement, Kibe expressed her discontentment with the Judge’s ruling.

“I’m clear in my mind that the process was free and fair but today’s ruling of nullifying the election is a shocker,” she wrote of her Facebook page.

She added: “The Judge in his wisdom did not get a reason within the grounds petitioned but went looking for a minor error in PSD diaries. We even did a ballot box and papers scrutiny for 28 polling stations and my votes were the same.”

Kibe said “she is sad because the victory of the people of Gatundu North has been stolen today through the courts.”

However, she said despite her enemies’ work to derail her development agenda for the people of Gatundu North, she is optimistic of a second triumph.

“We shall overcome. I remain undeterred! Nitakua kwa debe (I will be on the ballot).”
