Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu was on Saturday humiliated after taking a swipe at a Catholic priest during the burial of a county employee.

Ndichu who doubles up as a protestant bishop challenged the Catholic Church to make changes to its sacrament procedures,
While calling out the priest presiding over Hellen Wanjiru’s funeral, Ndichu said it is wrong for the Catholic Church to deny some worshippers sacrament.

“When you are giving the sacrament, you usually say that only Catholics are allowed to partake,” he said.

He even promised the priest a county job if he subscribed to his wish.

“You should make reforms so that everyone is also given the sacrament,” he said giving a short analogy of the symbolism of the sacrament.

But mourners at the funeral turned against him and threatened to interrupt the event.

The presiding Catholic Priest was forced to intervene and asked Ndichu to step down from the podium.

“Kindly take your seat. You even have the audacity to threaten that you will interrupt my speech at any political rally organized by the county!” the priest wondered.

“Get out and go and do what you will do,” he told the Kiambu Speaker.

Wanjiru was the deputy clerk at the Kiambu County Assembly. She passed on after a short illness.

She is the daughter of former Gatuanyaga MCA Cecilia Wamaitha.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who attended the funeral steered clear of the issue between the two bishops and eulogized the late Wanjiru.

She was survived by two daughters Nicole Wairimu and Tamia Wamaitha.
