The Kenya Revenue Authority has launched the KRA-M-Service App, a mobile application to ease compliance by Kenyan taxpayers.

The mobile-tailored application will enable all taxpayers to access services such as registration, verification, filing of returns and the payment of tax.

KRA-M-Service App hopes is one of the taxman’s mechanisms to increase revenue collection and make tax services efficient.

The app has a feature that allows you to check in the validation of KRA employees in a move aimed at reining in on impostors who con Kenyans in the name of working for KRA.

Once operational, KRA will expand its tax base to the informal sector as well as enhance remote operations by increasing e-commerce transactions.

With the digital outlook, KRA will ease the burden of tax compliance on Kenyans who have in the past been challenged by the conventional methods of compliance.

KRA has a target of Ksh163 trillion in the year ending June 2021.

However, this could be a daunting task due to a depressed economy occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.

Many businesses are now operating on losses while many others have taken the unpopular route of shutting down. Tax relief measures announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March will also play a role in KRA’s dipping revenues.
