The Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has issued a statement into the death of a tour van driver who collapsed at the Nairobi National Park and died on Sunday morning.

KWS in the statement said that the driver was on duty and slumped on the steering and took his last breath while the vehicle was still in motion.

The vehicle veered off the road and made a stop. KWS immediately sought medical assistance but he was dead already.

“The Nairobi National park management swiftly acted to secure the safety of the occupants and immediately calling for the assistance of a medical doctor. Unfortunately, when the doctor arrived he pronounced the driver dead,” read part of the statement.

KWS added that the matter was reported to the Lang’ata Police Station as soon as the doctor pronounced that the driver was dead.

“The tour company which the deceased worked for has been informed so as to get in touch with the next of kin of the deceased.

“KWS condoles with the bereaved family and wishes them fortitude during this difficult time,” KWS said.

Visitors planning to visit the park have since been assured of safety.

KWS said it has put in place precautionary measures to ensure that all visitors’ health and safety is guaranteed at all times while at the park.
