Lawyer Harun Ndubi arrested near State House for ‘drunk driving’

Popular human rights lawyer Harun Ndubi was on Sunday night arrested for drunk driving near State House.

Ndubi however, says that he was drugged by unknown people.

His was on his way home when his car stalled and he fell asleep near State House’s Gate D on Jakaya Kikwete Road.

Officers who rushed to where he had parked tried frantically to have him take a breathalyzer test but he declined.

He was taken to Kileleshwa Police Station where he spent the rest of the night.

He appeared in court on Monday where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to comply with police instructions and causing obstruction.

He pleaded not guilty to the three charges and was released on Sh30, 000 cash bail.

Ndubi has lately been on the spot over his bravery in fighting for electoral reforms, a subject that is on top of NASA’s agenda as well as the civil society.

Last week, he was featured as the legal counsel for Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati in a case challenging the state’s directive to revoke his firearm license.
