Life and times of Joseph Ole Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Nkaissery, now deceased has and will always remain a Kenyan hero.

Many have known him due to his combative way of addressing security issues in the country.

However, the retired senior military personnel have had a fulfilling life that many do not know of.

The following is his biography and times as told by Daily Nation.

Born

He was born on November 28, 1949.

Education

Attended Secondary school between 1967-1970

In 1971, he was admitted to Kenyatta College which would later become today’s Kenyatta University where he dropped out in 1972 to join the military.

Upon joining the military and serving for several years, he again enrolled as a Student of Defence Staff College for a Bachelor’s Degree in Education between 1985 and 1986 but he dropped out.

In 1996, he joined the United States Army War College and trained for one year before returning to Kenya.

Positions held in his military career

Before he quit military for politics in 2002, he was the Commandant of the Armed Forces Training College and GoC Westcom.

1997-1998-Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor of the Kenya Army

1994-1996-Brigade Commander of Kenya Army

1992-1993-Chief of Personnel of Kenya Army

1987-1991-Military Assistant to the Chief of General Staff of Kenya Army

1986-Battalion Second in command of Kenya Army

1982-Combat Instructor of Kenya Army

Political journey

He was first elected to Parliament in 2002 as Kajiado Central MP. He was re-elected in 2007 under ODM ticket.

In 2013, he was again re-elected and served for a short while before President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him in 2014 as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.
