List of politicians that civil societies want barred from contesting in August 8 polls

A group of civil society entities in the country has released names of 20 politicians allied to both Jubilee and NASA who should not be allowed to contest on integrity issues, Daily Nation reports.

The watchdog civil societies raised a number of issues predicating grounds on which some notable politicians should not be allowed to contest for public office.

Among the issues raised were abuse of office claims, misappropriation of funds, hate speech among others.

The report was jointly prepared by Kenya Integrity Alliance in partnership with Transparency International, Society for International Development, Mzalendo Trust and Inuka trust.

The report gives a brief summary on why some of the contestants should not be allowed to vie.

It starts its case with Kirinyaga Jubilee nominee for governorship former Devolution CS Ann Waiguru who has been accused of steering the ministry to the wrong direction leading to the loss of sh1.8 billion shillings.

She is still under investigation on the matter.

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has also been listed and accused of procurement irregularities of up to sh4.6 billion in a plan to put up a metropolitan transport system.

He has also been accused of bad show of leadership when he slapped Nairobi County Women Representative Rachael Shebesh.

Thirdly, Elizabeth Ongoro who is vying for Ruaraka MP Seat on an ANC ticket. She has been accused of causing violence during ODM primaries forcing the party to bar her from contesting on an ODM ticket.

Then there is Kiambu Jubilee nominee for Governorship Ferdinand Waititu (Baba Yao). He has been accused of hate speech.

Tiaty MP Asman Kamama has also been flagged off for allegedly being behind the spate of attacks in Baringo.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is also named, being accused of procurement irregularities.

Firebrand Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has been accused of abuse of office. He stole the show in 2015 when he caused a tiff at the Gilgil weighbridge.

Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti has been accused of misappropriating sh200 million meant for Agro city project and is under investigation by EACC.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has been accused of plunder of public funds with special interest on purchase of wheelbarrows to a tune of sh110, 000 each.

Okoth Obado, Migori Governor has also been accused of embezzlement of sh600 million and procurement irregularities.

Other politicians who have been named in the report include: Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria, Uasin Gishu Women rep aspirant and former registrar of the Judiciary Gladys Boss Shollei, Naorbi Senator ike Sonko, Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel, Migori governor aspirant Ochillo Ayacko, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Labour Minister Kazungu Kambi.

More names are likely to be added since the list is not complete according to the watchdog civil societies.
