Daniel Gucoma Ndutire, the man shot on Thika Road by three men on a motorbike early this week was a deadly criminal.
Reports of his criminal doing are now public as police release piecemeal information on him.
After his death, it emerged that he had been walking scot-free for five years after jumping bail in a robbery case he was facing. This is despite a warrant of arrest being issued.
Gucoma had executed criminal activities in Nairobi, Machakos, Eldoret and Nakuru where he was battling robbery with violence charges.
According to K24 Digital, he was involved in a botched bank robbery in Eldoret in 2017. Gucoma and accomplices had disarmed a guard at Supreme Equity Bank in Eldoret but escaped after getting wind of reports that police were combing the vicinity of the area.
Three of the robbers were arrested in Cheptiret with guns and fake number plates for a Toyota Harrrier.
On June 14, 2014, Gucoma and Stephen Mungai were accused of robbing one Patrick Nduati of his lorry and 300 gas cylinders in Mwiki.
The case was heard by Makadara Law Courts but Gucoma jumped bail and an arrest warrant was issued. The then Makadara Chief Magistrate Evelyne Olwande on August 16, 2016, withdrew the case, CR 2938/14, pending execution of warrant of arrest but was never arrested.
In another twist, he had another robbery case at the Milimani Law Courts charged alongside his mother Mary Wanjiku Ndutire and his wife Susan Wangare Njoroge in 2015.
Police records show that on July 15 2015 Gucoma and other men, all dressed in police uniform, blocked a lorry registration number KBV400K loaded with laptops, clothes and mobile phones worth Ksh60 million.
On August t6, 2015, some of the stolen goods worth over Ksh3 million were recovered in Ritho village in Kiambu, at his residence. It was during that raid that his wife and mother were arrested and charged in court, file number 1978/2015.
Another of his female relatives was in 2019 charged with robbery with violence after carjacking a motorist at gunpoint along Riara Road, Nairobi in 2017.
She stole a Toyota Harrier worth Ksh2.8 million and changed its registration number which was found out in February 2019.
Given his criminal history, police are yet to find out the motive of his killers.
Gucoma’s Subaru was sprayed with 24 bullets by three men on a motorbike at Gwa Kairu along Thika Road.
He was en route to Thika to close a motor vehicle deal according to his wife who was saved by a mechanical issue on a matatu she was travelling in to meet her husband.
