Mandera records highest number of COVID-19 cases in latest update, one death reported

Mandera County recorded the highest cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours with four people testing positive.

This is according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who made the announcement on Monday during a presser at Afya House.

The four cases are among 11 news cases confirmed in within 24 hours leading to Monday. Kenyan now has 208 COVID-19 cases.

The CS said a total of 674 samples were tested and all of them are Kenyans. Six are male and five are female.

“Four of the patients were from the mandatory quarantine while seven were picked up by our surveillance teams,” the CS said.

Four of the new patients have history of travel from the UAE. Besides Mandera’s 4 cases, Mombasa registered (3), Nairobi (2), Nakuru and Machako has one case each.

However, one of the patients passed on bringing the total number of Kenyans who have succumbed to coronavirus to 9.

Kagwe added that 14 more patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours putting the total of recovered patients to 40. Also, one more patient who had earlier tested positive turned negative after two mandatory tests. The patient has been in quarantine.
