A Massachusetts family is grappling to overcome the challenges that befell them on June 30, when their 5-year-old boy, Isaac Kamau (Mau) was hit by a car while playing outside their house in Lowell, MA.

Kamau was critically injured, suffering extensive head injuries and major fractures. He was rushed to Lowell General Hospital in an ambulance, where he received first aid, before being airlifted to Tufts floating children’s Hospital- trauma center.

Doctors at Tufts determined that there was no internal brain or spine damage, but established that he sustained a subarachnoid hemorrhage, left tibia and fibula fracture, left clavicular fracture and 3 broken ribs. He was admitted in the ICU where he was intubated until he stabilized.

The driver that hit the five-year-old boy only had minimal insurance coverage, and Kamau’s parents Monica ( Pepe) and Wilson ( willy) together with sisters Sienna and Ayana are appealing to well-wishers for financial assistance as they are left with the whole burden of taking care of their ill son.

Mau’s parents have taken time off from work to take care of him as he needs constant assistance, medical appointment follow-ups, and physical therapy.

”We, as family and friends would love to ease as many outside burdens as possible so they can remain focused on taking care of Mau. We would like to raise funds for the family to help with the cost incurred. Thank you to each one of you who have been there for Mau and his family. We appreciate you for your prayers, love, and support. Please continue to pray for Mau’s recovery” the family said in a statement.
