“Life begins at 90!” Polish national Sobieslaw Zasada aged 91 says in his quest to win in the 2021 World Rally Championship (WRC) taking going down in Naivasha from Thursday.
Zasada will be one of the competitors flexing his prowess on the tracks with renowned rally drivers such as multiple-award-winner Carl Tundo.
He will compete in a Ford Fiesta Rally3.
At 91, the Polish rally driver holds he is still fit to give the young blood a run on the tracks in the WRC Safari Rally.
Zasada is a veteran in safari rally having competed in the last 70 years.
He first took part in a rally in 1952. In total, he has competed in 250 rally competitions out of which he won 150.
“I’m going for it,” he said.
The WRC rally returns to Kenya after 18 years. It was last held in 2002.
Eighteen years later, the unforgiving dusty, rugged and bush roads will produce the next WRC winner in the four-day event going down in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
It is will be a rally safari as the roads cut through a wildlife zone in the Rift Valley.
Safari Rally Kenya will feature 18 stages and a total of 320.19 competitive kilometres. Shakedown was held on Wednesday afternoon, close to the Service Park on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
