Miguna Miguna landed in Nairobi today but was barred from entering the country after he refused to apply for a tourist visa as asked by the immigration officials at JKIA.

The self-styled NRM General said entering the country on a tourist visa would take away his rights.

“There is no way I will agree to what they are asking because what it does is that it waives rights that will never be restored. I know the mischief,” Miguna said.

A local daily reported that Miguna forced his way past immigration clearance area after a heated exchange but again was barred at the luggage area.

“I will not fall into the trick. If I was advising a client as an immigration lawyer, I would not do it. So why should I do it for myself?” Miguna posed.

Visitors who enter the country on visas may be kept away from certain privileges such as running for political seats as well as engaging in some businesses.

None of the high-ranking opposition leaders was seen at the airport to receive Miguna.

The government, however, through the Interior Ministry dismissed claims that Miguna Miguna was denied entry into the country.

The Interior Ministry spokesperson said that Miguna declined to present the passport he used to travel to Kenya as the law requires.

“IATA regulations require travelers to show the documents they traveled in at the point of entry, ” said Mwenda Njoka, the ministry’s spokesperson.

Miguna was still held up at JKIA’s International Arrivals lounge at the time of this reporting.
